Sustainable Development

sustainable development logoSustainable Development -- the idea that economic development can meet basic human needs without undermining cultures or natural enviroments -- has a long history at Appalachian State University. It started here in the Department of Anthropology as a concentration. In the spring of 1991 the University launched the undergraduate minor program. In 2001 the development of a Masters Program in Sustainable Development was begun. In 2013 the University elevated the program to department-level status.
