Call for Proposals for Department of Anthropology Events

The Department of Anthropology Events Committee solicits proposals for events for the 2018/2019 academic year. The committee aims to provide “seed money” (maximum $150) for academic talks, workshops, screenings, or other anthropological events that will broadly engage students, faculty, and/or the community. If funded, the proposer is responsible for event organizing and promotion. Funded proposers are responsible for finding additional funding for events from other departments or sponsors, in consultation with the Department Chair.

Your proposal should include the following:

• Title of the proposed event
• Event date and location
• Event description or abstract (200 words or less)
• CV(s) or resume(s) of speaker(s)
• Line item budget
• List of potential or committed co-sponsors

Successful proposals will articulate the relevance of the event to anthropologists, especially our students and faculty, and its relevance to a wider audience. Estimates of expected audience size are encouraged. The committee will strive to support proposals across anthropological subdisciplines and work to avoid possible scheduling overlap.

The Fall 2018 deadline for proposals is Monday, September 17, 2018. Proposers are encouraged to submit proposals by this deadline, even for spring events, to maximize chances of funding. Decisions will be made by September 24, 2018. The Spring 2019 deadline is January 21, 2019. Please be aware that funding may be limited at this time if it has already been committed to earlier proposals. Please send your proposal as a single PDF to karchmerei@appstate.edu.
