Nominations are open for CAS faculty and staff awards

Description

Nominations for the College of Arts and Sciences faculty and staff awards are now open.  Please take time to recognize those faculty and staff around you that you feel have performed outstanding service, teaching or scholarship.  The deadline for nominations is August 31, 2019.

Awards Open for Nomination:

  • William C. Strickland Outstanding Junior Faculty Award  (click for more information and on how to nominate)
    Outstanding untenured faculty who have completed at least two full academic years in the tenure-track rank in CAS. 
  • Who can nominate? All faculty, as well as outside experts in the academic discipline, are eligible to submit nominations.  (No self-nominations).
  • Eligible: J. Carter, C. Gokee, E. Karchmer, C.V. Sornito

  • Donald W. Sink Family Outstanding Scholar Award (click for more information and on how to nominate)
    Outstanding tenured faculty (including emerita) with at least two full years of employment in CAS and a history of excellence in research, scholarship and contributions to the faculty member's academic field. Nominees must have assumed a standard teaching and service load for the majority of their career. 
  • Who can nominate? All faculty, as well as outside experts in the academic discipline, are eligible to submit nominations. (No self-nominations).
  • Eligible: H. Ayers, P. Beaver, B. Bennett, J. Boyer, L. Kimball, S. Lappan, D. Mines, D. Powell, G. Reck, G. Robbins Schug, T. Smith, T. Whyte

  • Jimmy Smith Outstanding Service Award (click for more information and on how to nominate)
    Full-time faculty (including emerita) with at least five full academic years of employment in CAS. 
  • Who can nominate? All faculty and staff, as well as outside experts in the academic discipline, are eligible to submit nominations. (No self-nominations).
  • Eligible: H. Ayers, P. Beaver, B. Bennett, J. Boyer, C. Claassen, E. Karchmer, L. Kimball, S. Lappan, D. Mines, D. Powell, G. Reck, G. Robbins Schug, T. Whyte

  • Academy of Outstanding Teachers/Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award (click for more information and on how to nominate)
    All full-time, retired and emeriti faculty who have taught in CAS for at least two full years are eligible. Persons nominated may have been an instructor in a lecture class or seminar at any level, a lab instructor or director of independent study or an academic advisor or mentor. Normally those appointed to the Academy of Outstanding Teachers are currently active faculty members in CAS, however under extraordinary circumstances, retired or emeriti faculty may be appointed. 
  • Who can nominate? All faculty, staff and alumni are eligible to submit nominations. Any ASU student may submit a nomination as long as they are not currently enrolled in the nominee's class. (No self-nominations).
  • Eligible: H. Ayers, P. Beaver, B. Bennett, J. Boyer, J. Carter, C. Claassen, C. Gokee, E. Karchmer, S. Keefe, L. Kimball, M. Kissel, S. Lappan, D. Mines, D. Powell, G. Reck, G. Robbins Schug, T. Smith, C.V. Sornito, T. Whyte, A. Wright

  • Non-Tenure Track Teaching Excellence Award (click for more information and on how to nominate)
    Current non-tenure track faculty (teaching 3 or more hours per year) who have taught in CAS for at least three consecutive semesters. All faculty, staff and alumni are eligible to submit nominations. 
  • Who can nominate? Any ASU student may submit a nomination as long as they are not currently enrolled in the nominee's class. (No self-nominations).
  • No current faculty in anthropology are eligible

  • Outstanding Staff Award (click for more information and on how to nominate)
    Current full-time SPA or EPA Non-Faculty employees in CAS who have worked at Appalachian State University for at least one full year. 
  • Who can nominate? All faculty, staff, students and alumni are eligible to submit nominations. (No self-nominations).
  • Eligible: D. Flaherty
