Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University invites applications for a full time non-tenure track faculty position in sociocultural anthropology (specialty open) at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning 08/01/2023. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by the date of appointment.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education.  The position requires teaching a 4/4 load that includes both introductory and upper level undergraduate anthropology courses. A typical schedule may include general education courses (for example, ANT 2420 Gender, Race, and Class and ANT 1415 Understanding Culture), and/or a core introductory sociocultural course for the major (ANT Cultural Anthropology), plus an upper level course based upon research expertise. The successful candidate will share our department’s collective commitment to transformative justice, inclusion, and equality. Initial one year contract, with the possibility for multi-year renewal based upon a positive performance review and administrative approval.
